afternoon all. disaster stuck my house today as when i switched the pc the above title is the sequence of bleeps that my pc gave me. I have no idea about PCs but i have searched this site and found some useful info but how do I test it is the ram before i buy new ones that I dont need.
motherboard is a asus PSQL PRO no idea what the chp thing is an intel of some sort but i cant see any writing on it because of the fan on it.
it has a geforce 9800gtx video card and an ASUS soundcard and three HDs 50 gig 250 gig and 350 gig 2 maxtors and a seagate. no clue about the ram but it says corsair 64m8cfeg on all the wee chips on the sticks.12 wee chips on each stick of ram .

hope this makes sense to some one.

cheers

can anyone help me out here? how do I know what kind the Ram is?
If it's not printed on it then try running a program called CPUZ,providing you can run the PC,

If not try googling the motherboard to see what ram is compatible

what is the BIOS reporting for memory capacity ?

If you boot windows into repair menu (Vista, Win7 and Win8, not sure about XP) by pressing F8 soon as BIOS screen disappears. There is an option to do a memory test in there.

The PC doesn't come on it just bleeps 1 long bleep then 3 short ones. The power is on but no output. I have googled the writing on the ram and found it to be ddr2 but my question is can I test the old one before I waste money on new ram that isn't the problem? Cheers

Swap them around.
I would imagine it's 1 gig and 1 gig if vista and above .see what happens..
Swap them with another computer etc?
What operating system are you running.?

Conventional/Extended memory failure - A fault has been detected in memory above 64KB. Try the steps below to resolve your issue:

(1) If you've recently added or tried to add additional memory to the computer and have started getting these beeps. Remove all new memory you've added to the computer. If the computer works fine after removing the new memory you're encountering either an incompatibility or defective new memory.

(2) Sometimes when the computer is moved and/or over time a memory stick can become loose causing the computer to be unable to read the memory or get errors as it's reading it. Try fixing this issue by opening the computer removing each of the memory sticks you have in the computer and then placing them back into the computer.

(3) If reseating the memory did not resolve the issue try swapping the location of the memory. If you have only one stick of memory in the computer try moving it to another slot and then boot the computer. If you have more than one stick of memory try removing all but one stick of memory and boot the computer. If this does not resolve the issue try removing that stick of memory and try one of the other sticks of memory.

(4) If you have access to another computer that uses the same type of memory try using its known good memory in your computer. If another computers memory works you know that you have faulty memory. If another computers memory does not work and it is compatible with your computer, unfortunately your motherboard and/or the slots on the motherboard are defective causing it to be unable to properly read the memory, which means the motherboard will have to be replaced.

it turned out that my graphics card was fried. my mate entered the motherboard makers website (asus) popped in the model number and searched bleep test. apparently different motherboards give different bleep tones if something is pumped. any I got a new one popped it in and its going , all but the sound but that something to do with my amp , it keep over loading when I connect to the pc channel. hopefully get it sorted now. would anyone know if a sound card just plugs into the motherboard with no other connections? I cant find any other wires to plug in to the soundcard

cheers for all the suggestions guys
