not a bloody clue?
.... So I gets an email telling me that my Skype is out of date and need updating otherwise it will cease to work...

I followed the link in the email to download the latest version and began the install...I was then faced with the following error:

'Installing Skype failed: code 1603'

So I followed the links from the popup..... its turns out that the Installation need to uninstall the older version but it cant do it for whatever reason and needs to be done manually??

After searching many links and reading and trying lots of tips... I still cannot uninstall the older version of Skype.

Ive uninstalled Skype from 'programs & features' (windows 7)
Ive manually searched and deleted deposits in the registry.
Ive deleted all of the left over folders from the computer HDD
Ive run a reg-cleaner after many reboots....

and I'm still stuck with the same error??

From what I can see there is no trace of Skype on the PC, but it still wont remove/install??

'The older version of Skype 6.18 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group'

Anyone any ideas??

Cheers

appwiz.cpl is just the command line to bring up the same window that going to Control Panel > Programs and Features would. As you've already done that, it explains why it's not listed.

Have a quick look at all your installed browsers. Check that there isn't a Skype add-on, extension etc installed.

Also try installing the new version of Skype in Safe Mode with Networking off the [F8] boot menu - it might free up the service that is causing it to hang.

I got the same email from them, but as I have Skype installed on several machines, I thought 'how can they possibly know which one needs updating?'. So I completely ignored it, whilst being prepared to re-install as and when necessary (i.e. when one or more of them stop working), so far no problems, touch wood. Would a Windoze system restore put it back to how it was, or is it too late for that?

Right....
Ive done a restore to an earlier date and everything is now as it was.... But i still cant remove/update skype??

I think after this, once its off, its staying off!

Ive done it.... it would seem that the version on skype that i had on the PC was 6.7. However the latest version is only at 6.18????

I found a version 6.7 beta and installed that. Then it allowed me to uninstall it.... so I'm on 6.18 now... i've no idea where 6.7 came from??

Thank for all the advice :)

Its been a learning curve lol... I did manage to find a cracking little program call Revo Uninstaller Pro HERE
