Software Word files corrupted

Hi,

Friend upgraded from XP to Win7. They can open their existing excel documents fine but all of his word documents are corrupted. I tried opening on my laptop and the word documents are just garbled. He used Office 2003 and I tried with with Office 2013.

I tried some online repair document programs but none of them worked. Also tried with Open Office.

Anyone had similar issue and managed to repair them?

Did you try Word Pad m8, if it opens them you could copy and paste into a new word doc?

Just tried wordpad and its appearing as

Just wondering could it be a missing font?

It has their home contact details and personal stuff. I can email you privately if you like, but prefer not to post online as I dont what else is in the file.

That's fine and understandable m8, I only have access to Android at the moment but maybe that might work lol

But if you can wait till either later or tomorrow I can try a few different doc viewers

If still no joy let us know what version they were created with and/or what the extension is (.doc or .docx) and what you've already tried.

I have suggested he try you so be alert :)

btw its a Word 2003 .doc file created in XP

If you can PM a doc (preferably without personal stuff) I'll have a go at it.

I also tried Office 2010 as well as word repair and OffVis ,couldn't source Word 2003
