as per title, the drive spins up and the light is on, just does not show up in windows or in manage disc

any ideas?

Try:
Different USB port.
Known good cable (if possible).
Alternative computer.

If it's still in warranty, get in touch with the retailer - baring in mind most likely is to just do a swap (so any data would be lost). If it's out of warranty, strip the drive out and connect directly to the computer (i.e. via SATA).

hi bud. ive went onto my device manager and look I had an item called acronis something or other. I uninstalled it, and when i plug the hdd in I get thishdd.jpg

right, my pc doesnt recognise it, i took the drive out of the enclosure and into my vu duo and it recognises the drive. Could it be a fault with the sata to usb bit?

I have 2 portable seagate drives 2tb each usb3 when put into usb3 computer will not reconise them ,the computer firm i got computer from said that it could be because the usb 3 cable are to long.

The USB 3.0 standard does not specifiy a maximum cable length. However, according to the wiki article, the use of AWG 26 wiring as standard limits cable length to approx 3m. Even taking into account the use of a fly lead to a front panel USB 3.0 port, I can't imagine you'd be looking at more than 2m total in most situations.

Have just tried these drives on my other windows7 computer and just the same freezes the boot up to windows so i think must be the drives cant find anything on seagate site.ps usb 2

Plug them in after boot, and see if they get picked up. My 2nd gen iPod Nano used to cause an old machine to freeze if it was plugged in on boot up.

Also the every USB hard drive I've come across uses generic USB mass storage drivers written into the OS by Microsoft.

Hi
I had a similar problem when I was installing a new 1 tb on my nephews computer.what I normally do is to put the drive in a caddy, plug in to USB port. I then use acronis to do a clone copy of the computer drive on the drive in the caddy.once this is done I take the drive out of the caddy and put it in the PC.initially the 1tb although the lights were on and spinning up would not show. I even tried in another PC. I then used Acronis (a programme you seem to have on your PC) and in the tools, Initialised the new 1tb drive. It then started to be recognised in the laptop I was cloning and other PC's in my house.

There could be a few things going wrong here... Sounds to me like the HD is getting power, one of the reasons it might not be showing up is because it's not formatted properly. The first thing I would check is if it works in any other computers. Secondly, I would recommend using...

Partitioning tool For home MiniAide Fat32 Formatter Home | MiniAide

This program will allow you to see all disks even if they are not formatted. This makes it really simple to apply a format, and then get the disk to show up in your explorer when you navigate to the root drive. Let me know if this helps.
