I have did a few repairs regarding these poor quality dell laptop lids. It seems the hinge screws into a litltle brass threaded hole that is moulded into the lid.

We all know the stress laptop hinges go under and this is the best dell can do...

I can replace the back lid not a problem but its the expense, is there any way to secure the hinge screws to the back lid, would jb weld be a good choice or could it not handle the stress of the hinge...

Regards,

Bobby

I am sure that JB Weld would strengthen the hold of the screww into the lid and make the lid more stable. However, I would think that as the lid stresses from use that instead of the screws coming loose, the plastic around the bezel would stress and break which would definitely mean a new lid.
Unless you have a laptop like a Lenovo Thinkpad with sturdy metal hinges there is always going to be a problem after regular use.

As it happens i have just repaired a dell with broken and loose screws and mounts. One side had completely gone with only 1 brass mounting still in place. As always with these broken brass lugs, i hot glue them. Hot glue all broken lugs back on the base then put back together as normal then hot glue again over and around effected area making sure you dont put too much on that the case wont go back together.

4 small diameter self tapers from homebase. Screw them down through the original screw holes and right through the plastic cover and carefully file off the sharp ends at the bottom. Jobs a good one!
