i have an old packard bell tower mobo ms6786 v2 i am trying without success putting a second hard drive into it the one thats in is set to cable select and works fine i have tried to install a second as a slave and have set it the same cable select computer starts to boot then hangs for for quite a long time and i get the message telling me to remove any disk drive recently added take it out and i boots just fine i have also tried this setting drives one to master and the other to slave without success
can someone shed some light on this please just one other thing gone into bios and pressed f5 to set
to default settings when booting up it always ask if i want to boot from cd even when it shows first boot device is floppy but always starts ok after this message

First, check whether it's a pukka cable-select cable and you're connecting it the correct way round i.e. blue goes to mainboard, black goes to the master and grey to the slave. Double check the new drive is okay and they're both set to cable-select.

If that still fails I'd try a new cable, still no joy use a non-cable-select cable and set the drives to master/slave.

and if that don't work, try plugging it into 2nd ide interface on motherboard, if the cd drive is already in there either use cs as above or manually set new hdd to master and cd to slave.

re 2nd cd boot problem, it should only ask to boot from cd when there's a bootable disk in there, so take it out and see if still got problem.
