I downloaded a free video player last week and this stupid starsearch h-tp://search.searchcompletion.com toolbar came with it and took over my search engines.

I followed some instructions of the web to remove it from IE and it was easy / tools/options/ADD ons/search engines/remove/ web search

Thing is I cant shift it from firefox my home page is still google but when I type direct in the search bar at the top this starsearch etc is still taking over ??

Ive been in the tool options in firefox add ons etc like I did with my IE and theres no web search in add ons etc.

I also still have a small stupid web search tool bar aswell which I cant find the options to remove It.

Try this:

In the address bar type about:config and confirm the warning message. In the 'Filter' field type searchcompletion, replace all instances with Google or http://www.google.com as appropriate. Restart Firefox.

Might also be worth running a malware scan too.
