my daughters packard bell easynote tj65 hard drive is about to pack it in. the hard drive is a toshiba MK5055GSX. 500GB. I have tried to image the drive using the tool in windows 7

    packard bell easynote backup problems. HELP

    my daughters packard bell easynote tj65 hard drive is about to pack it in. the hard drive is a toshiba MK5055GSX. 500GB.

    I have tried to image the drive using the tool in windows 7 and also norton ghost. but when i replace the drive i get operating system not found, BROADCOM UNDI PXE-2.1 V11.4.1

    The replacement drive is a 160gb samsung HM161GI

    I'd try Acronis True Image.

    sounds like your PXE booting and not off the hard drive. Have you ensured bios has picked up the replacement drive.

    Maybe the imaging tool can't load a HDD controller driver.

    Clone the drive on a separate machine.

    tried acronis. still the same. what steps should i take to prepare the new drive. is it possible to plug 2 laptop drives into my desktop 2 clone. i dont have access to another laptop.

    You just need to plug one in at a time. You need a converter or external caddy.

    Make an image and store it on your PC then transfer it to the new drive.

    cheers mate i'll try that tommorrow. the wife has her pals round and i cant near my desktop.
    the drive appears to have cloned but in computer management it just sees it as a primary drive(not labelled as boot,etc).thats after i've pulled it out the laptop and connected externally via usb.
