just pull it out and try in caddy or another pc
will confirm dead hd

Disabled means that it is switched off in the bios...
go back into the bios and change the setting to auto or user (if set to user you may have to enter the number of heads and sectors manualy)
save settings and reboot... it will detect the drive now.

i just cant change the option in the bios? it's well weird there's no way to scroll down to it, i tried plugging it into a usb converter caddy type thing but it's not showing using this either.....not sure if the usb thing has enough power to run a laptop hard drive as i know when i plug a normalhard disk in it's also got a power converter for the 3.5" drives. where the laptop one aint....

it's defo the hard drive as just unplugged a working one and tried that one in the other laptop and it's auto detected it straight away....right off to buy a hdd
