Anyone know of a way to delete or find out the bios password on an old Acer Travelmate 2410 laptop. It uses a Phoenix bios.

I have searched google and there are a few tools out there but they dont work.

I can boot up windows fine, but the password for the bios has been lost.

you can try removing the little battery on the motherboard, which provides power to hold bios settings ..... leave it out for a while and it may clear out the bios password.

another way is to flash bios but this is risky and can screw things up.

yep deffo try the battery thing it worked for me on numerous occasions. also try the obvious passwords too. like admin,0000,guest etc

Thanks for the replies.

I have tried the usual default passwords for the bios, like PHOENIX, and other ones.

I dont fancy ripping the laptop apart to find the battery, if there is one, as I believe some laptops dont use a battery they use something fixed to the circuit board.

if the battery thing doesn't work, if you can lift the keyboard up or out, might need to clip off some covers ans unscrew a couple of screws.

you might find a micro switch under the KB. check on net what one ti switch turn on then off put switch back and put back together and password should defo be gone.

all depends on model.

All sorted now.

Thanks Kruger (rep given).

I took off the cover with the power button and other buttons on, just near the screen. Then lifted the keyboard and there was a bank of 4 dip switches.

I had to search the net for a while to find the right one to move.

Turn switch 1 on, then turn the laptop on and the bios was cleared, then turn the switch back to off again.

Put the keyboard back and replaced the cover and all is well with the world again.

Now I can install my windows 7 on it. :)
