help something is sending emails

ok guys,

Listen...this has freaked me out....lol

I have just re-installed zonealarm, i know i know, but i like it.

And...i just reset norton anti virus.....

help im sending loads of shit to people, this is no good as i have a vpn connection to work...

now i have just set up wingate and that and have 2 x cable modems running.

but dam look at these screen shots.....

i've noticed today that i have a constant light on you know the local connection light that you can have

listen, ran virus checkers and ran spy ware...

so what is casuing this ? is wingate virused to fook

looks like a junk email sending programme has been installed on your machine..

I think i i was you and was stuck, just fdisk your hard drive re format it, and do a fresh installation of windows, make sure you back up all you files that you need first though.

I've started using virtualpc for browsing websites now.

If I get any issues like that, I delete the virtual drive and copy a new one from a template install I have.

Initially started doing it with all my banking sites, but now I have one for normal browsing.

Btw, virtualpc is free off the MS website.

ah guys it's virtually impossible for me to wipe this puppy and start again... i have so so so much stuff installed on, ftp programs, vpn connections to work (not that I'm going to use that for now) you know what it's like with all the software that you have installed and that, the thought of installing it from fresh sounds good but then again i can't bring my self to do it.

If it's a case of wingate thats causing it which it is, (see the guys post in the cable section) then i've disabled it for now and I'm just using one modem connected to the net.

you could do what i did m8 and buy a second hard drive and install windows onto that, put it as the primery drive and put your old hard drive as secondary, that way you have kept all your files.
Then transfer as you need them.

PS: Just as an after thought, Think about binning Norton's. I changed from Norton's about a year ago to Kaspersky. After the first scan Kaspersky found two trojans that Norton had let in.

IMO, Norton is NOT a good AV prog!

Agree 100% with Baaheeduk

ditch Norton its not very good. I had a similar experience with Norton not picking up some dodgy files.

i use Virgins PC Guard alongside spysweeper.

You're just going to have to bite the bullet and re-install. It looks like you're on a 'bot net', which is trying to send spam out like crazy. There's no way to be 100% sure you've killed everything even with all the scanners in the world. A format and clean install is the only way forward.

Then install Linux, and you'll not have this problem again :banana:

been using wingate for a while now and no problems wot so ever , i use nod32 and it never misses a trick , the amount of shit norton give me im supprised anyone still uses it

It looks like your machine is a Zombie.

It may be a worm using an address book or similar on your machine to send SPAM or, and likely, copies of itself. Do you use an Address Book feature or have in any other way a collection of email addresses on your machine?

I know it was mentioned to use a (GNU)/Linux OS approach but that doesn't suit everyone and their required software. It could be a good firewall though if you wanted to configure a proxy.
