was doing a fresh install of windows xp and on the full format at 99% It froze I waited 30 mins and it was still on 99% so i turned power off and booted from cd now it says disk error

because i formatted all partitions does this mean i have no OS and any xp disc wont boot

Im busy downloading an xp indego addition as ive used this in the past and it booted no problem any ideas help please

advice is very welcome : spook :

to be honest the xp pro disk i was using hadnt been tested before so could have been a bit dodgy will see what happens when i try and install the indego addition

if you got another pc up and running make a win 98 boot disk..(floppy)

boot up using this, then run fdisk to erase the partition table and rebuild it

reboot pc then use

format c: /s

tis will format the drive and make it bootable..

the joys of using fdisk is tho it may be slow any bad sectorts wont be added to the partition.

xp

Hi FemaleLizzard

If all else fails, boot using the XP disk and after loading all the drivers it will ask if you wish to install xp or recover via a recovery consol, select the recover option and it will take you into a dos screen, type in chkdsk /c: then press enter it may sort your probs out with the H/Disk (tip: if you type help then push enter it will give a list of commands you can use) never know your luck, it may just work :)
