hi recently i bought a new hard drive cause my old sata one started clicking which i am led to beleive that it is losing sectors,so i bought a new hard drive took it home instaled winxp no bother then the next problem started it would struggle to boot past the winxp logo ,so i reformated everything and tryed puting a partition in instead but it still does that same then windows stopped reconizing it was there so i took the hard drive back to the shop to get it swaped they checked it on there machine it was reconized no probs but any way got a new one and it`s still happening it sometimes boots then the next time it doesnt hope some one can help please really getting anoyed.could it be stat drivers i`m strugling to find them, my spec is

motherboard is a gigabyte 700vt600p-rz
amd sepron 2600+
768 mb ram
winxp
160gig sata hard drive

i would check all my cables on my sata drive as you can see they are quite small and flimsy quite easy for them to fall out do you have them on the correct port on your board check the book

what i mean is they are small and may not be in properly check see if any cable is pushing against it if so move as its easy for them to come loose

Only driver for SATA RAID driver.

If you listen carefuly does your SATA spin up ok everytime? Saying that I don't believe you would have 2 faulty drives....

It might be a Motherboard SATA fault, have you looked for a BIOS upgrade? Possible fix?

BIOS Release:- F4 2004/09/21

-Added Hard Disk Boot Priority option.
-Fixed fail to enter NT 4.0 while no ps2 mouse is plug

Thats the only thing that mentions HDD. Worth a try?

yeah i`m just away to download that drvivers will let you know thats what i was saying the drive that i took back to the shop was fine but they just gave me a new one cause it wasn`t working on mine
all the cables are in right and i hear the drive spining when i start up

was the 2nd drive u got from the shop the same make/model ?
at work we bought 10 60G maxtors eide drives for some hp machines that we had a project for that needed the drives upgraded from 20g. the machines had all been running for 2 years or so with no problems. Off the 10 new drives 8 had failed within a week all just locked up then failed to boot after a power off, "inaccesable boot device".
it could be the shop has been sold a duff batch like us......
