Phones 4U collapsed into administration on Sunday night after its last remaining mobile operator partner, EE, cut ties with the retailer.

Phones 4U has 720 outlets, including 550 standalone stores, and employs 5,596 people. Staff will be briefed by management in stores and at head office on Monday morning. BC Parters, Phones 4U's private equity owner, said it is "intended that employees will continue to be paid until further notice".

Mobile industry sources said EE informed Phones 4U of its decision last week. After being contacted by The Telegraph on Sunday BC Partners said it would seek to appoint PwC as adminstrators on Monday.

Phones 4U stores will be closed pending a decision by the administrators on whether they can be reopened for trading. Mobile contracts signed through the retailer will be unaffected.

Sent from me phone :)

Use to always used p4u coz got better deals than EE themselves and unlocked phones. Got out of my EE contract early due to their price increase and went to Tesco. Feel sorry for the staff, EE are a bunch of useless idiots

Just saw a new advert on telly from them yesterday I think.

With a DeLorean in it. Well they need a time-machine now.

Feel for the staff.

Always found them more helpful/interested in customer than their competitors

Wish I had one, I ordered a sim free iphone 6 with them Sunday:(

Can see why EE and Vodafone want to see away with P4U as they will look to sell direct.

Very harsh on the staff at P4U and from a business that made £105 million a year profit, so EE and Vodaphone would look to pick up that and save on the discount they were clearly passing onto P4U.

Guess when you look at it, was a flawed longer term business model.

Short term brilliant as providers will subsidise for P4U whilst they advertise widely and build the market, once established you pull the plug.

EE are a woeful company with some of the worst customer services ever and I will boycott for evermore.
