A man suspected of illegally streaming live sports events on an "industrial" scale is being questioned by police.

Officers from the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) raided an address in Cheetham Hill, Manchester and seized 12 computer servers.

They arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of streaming a wide range of sporting events from across the world.

The unlawful operation is believed to have cost subscription-only TV services up to £10m, said police.

The operation was supported by Greater Manchester Police.

Det Ch Insp Danny Medlycott, head of PIPCU, said: "Today's operation is the unit's third arrest in relation to online streaming.

"Not only is there a significant loss to industry with this particular operation but it is also unfair that millions of people work hard to be able to afford to pay for their subscription-only TV services when others cheat the system

i don't know what site it was, but to be fair, if sky made it cheap enough and without the relentless adverts then i would subscribe

why would i want to pay £40 a month to be shown mostly adverts and the occasional programming, thats why i don't watch a lot of tv.

Fair play to the fella thats making it cheaper for all of us

A raid and subsequent arrest hailed by the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit as one of their most significant yet has taken an unexpected twist. After being accused of masterminding an "industrial scale" sports streaming operation, a UK man has had all of the charges against him dropped

not only the adverts that prevent me from the subs its the lack of live football coverage, i hate watching someone talk about the game (ive got the radio for that) at 3pm sat. The only way to watch a live game on sat afternoon 3pm is via one of these sites (or europe sat sub) even sky wont show them in this country.
They say it will affect ticket sales, but i call bs, ticket prices are too high now so i wont go, also whenever ive gone to get a ticket in the past the availability is always limited.
