The cruel thugs posted a video of the attack on a disabled homeless man saying "I nominate a smack head in a wheelchair"

A wheelchair-bound homeless man was chased by yobs and subjected to a 'happy-slap' Ice Bucket Challenge in a new sinister side of the internet craze sweeping the nation.

The cruel video was posted onto YouTube, showing one of the teen gang snigger into the camera: “I nominate a smack head in a wheelchair," while gesturing to their target.

The disabled rough sleeper tried to escape down an alleyway, but he was cornered from behind and a huge tub of freezing water was poured over his head.

The victim, who has been homeless for 17 years, was left speechless by the prank and so shocked that all he could reply to the yobs was: "Aren't you good?"

With no bed for the night, the man was forced to sleep outside in his wet and dripping clothes.

But it is understood a case of common assault could be pursued by cops if the homeless man reported the incident to officers and the water pouring was against his wishes.

The video, filmed on Saturday on an estate in Everton, Liverpool, has now been removed from YouTube.

The victim, who wants to remain anonymous for fear of reprisals told the Liverpool Echo: "I’ve been living on the streets for 17 years and I’ve never had unkindness like that.

"The people of Liverpool have been keeping me alive for 17 years, so it was a shock.

“One minute I was just cutting through the estate, and the next minute I saw a giant bucket of water, they came from every angle. I tried to get away as quick as I could.

“I didn’t have a room for the night, I can’t get anywhere that’s wheelchair accessible and I couldn’t dry off so I was really cold. I didn’t know what to say.

“I don’t mind people having a laugh for charity, I do anything for charity, I thought charity began at home but where’s the charity in that? I’m homeless, it was not good. I was even more cold.

“I feel like everyone has seen it, but everyone has been supportive. No ones made fun of me, I’ve only had good comments.”

The homeless man, who lives at the entrance to a train station, tried to appease the gang of yobs after his soaking, insisting: "It's all fine."

Merseyside Police said they were launching an investigation even though the victim, in his 40s, had not made a complaint.

A spokesman said: "We are looking at this because of the nature of the offence."

The Ice Bucket challenge has already had some alarming consequences with the death of Cameron Lancaster, 18, who jumped into a quarry in Fife, Scotland, last weekend being linked to the craze.

Locals said youngsters had been jumping off the cliffs at the quarry in a more extreme form of the dare.

Things like this really get to me how some humans can be so damn right effing nasty things go too far this day and age.

Always the minority. But the press have to publish it. Did it need to hit the newspapers? Probably not.

if we had a "wrapping someone up in cotton wool craze" it would still hit the newspapers that someone has died from it or someone has got hurt from it.

I guess some people will never learn.

I have a friend who uses a powered wheelchair, if that happened to him not only would it fry his chair, he probably would have had a heart attack.
