Paramedics and cops were called after the football legend was seen slumped outside his flat clutching a bottle of vodka

Ex-England ace Paul Gascoigne was being treated in hospital today as he faces being made homeless following another drinking binge.

Paramedics and cops were called after the football legend was seen slumped outside his flat clutching a bottle of vodka.

He was in the process of being evicted by his landlord from the property where neighbours had recently complained of the noise.

As he was taken away from his £3million rented penthouse apartment in the exclusive Sandbanks area of Poole, Dorset, Gazza phoned a friend to say: “I am in trouble, please can you come and help me.”

He was being treated at Poole Hospital tonight.

A friend said: “It is very sad. But the reality is Paul has been drinking for the past few weeks and once that happens things will only end one way.

“Today things came to a head. He has had a lot on his plate as he is in the process of trying to find somewhere to live.

“His landlord had given him 10 days to get out of the flat and it was weighing on his mind. Obviously things became too much for him in the past couple of days and he has turned back to the bottle.”

On Tuesday morning Paul was seen in a WHSmith near his plush home, which has a balcony overlooking the ocean.

He appeared drunk and unsteady on his feet as he posed for pictures with pals.

Today a spokesman for the star confirmed he was aware of the incident at Gazza’s apartment.

A spokeswoman for South West Ambulance Service confirmed paramedics were called to attend to a patient in the area this afternoon.

The troubled retired former midfielder has been locked in a life-and-death struggle with booze for years.

His latest rehab stint was in January when he checked into a £6,000-a-month clinic in Southampton.

This was at least his seventh attempt to get professional help to quit alcohol.

Our pictures come after Gazza reportedly signed to play for Abbey Windows FC in Bournemouth’s Sunday football league - for a fee of just £8.

Gazza, who now lives in Dorset, could be turning out in Bournemouth’s Sunday league for Abbey Windows FC.

There are thousands of people in the UK, millions wordwide, who suffer from alcoholism.

Why should I feel any sympathy for someone who's received far more help and support over the years than all but a tiny fraction of those others?

He's a lost cause. There are far more deserving cases to be concerned about.

Time for the media to move on.

Got to agree with you guys on this, gazza will never stop drinking, fact. so why does everyone bend over backwards to " help" him and say what a shame it is, the truth is really hes already dead, and he doesn't want to be saved,

I was looking at some of these Gazza pictures in the paper and they're so awful you can't help but feel sorry. The trouble is you can see Israel's point of view as well.......... oh no, i've seen what i've done there :blushing:

im on the fence here sure gazzas had lots of help ,but people are only saying this as its all about the money been spent sending him to expensive rehab units,
remember hes a human being ,a father and someones son, theres plenty off addicts who go in to nhs rehabs well in to double figures and still cant beat the drink or drugs, anyone can detox but its the aftercare thats needed im afraid theres just some people who cant adjust to being sober , lifes cruel and it will end in gazza been found dead at his flat alone.gazza just doesnt want to stop drinking just because his in the public eye doesnt mean hes no different than any other addict whos struggling with there demons

Yep, jumped the queue for a new liver on the strength of his celebrity and his solemn promise never to drink again.

Then the stupid ungrateful moron went and drank himself to death.

"First the man takes a drink; then the drink takes a drink; then the drink takes the man."

chances in life are few, gazza's had his and more, imo time to let go now, what will be will be.

To sit on the fence as well - alcoholism is a disease. Drinking yourself quite literally to death is not a concious decision like cheating on your wife over and over again despite being "given another chance".

I don't know Gazza as a person, just of his ability as a football player and his much publicised antics (however true they may be) . As far as i'm concerned getting drunk and giving your wife a beating is indefensible. I do however wish him the best of luck in fighting his demons and living another day to overcome his battle with alcoholism... same as I would for Joe Blogs around the corner if I heard his story.

You beat me to it m8. I have no special liking nor disliking for Gazza, but addiction (in whatever form) can, and often does override 'sensible' decision. In his case, he's clearly sought solace in drink. WE can see it was the wrong decision, but addictions can have immense power, often underestimated. Hence the reason so many apparently 'sensible' individuals appear to throw it all away with seemingly senseless actions.

The innocent family members that have to live with the effects of a person choice to take drugs or drink to the extreme are the one that have my sympathy
