Petition calling for Gordon Brown to resign

I think we all know that its the Civil Service bods who run the country. The government of the day is just the figurehead to whom blame can be attached.

Regardless of whos in power, nothing important will change. Same general policies, maybe a different name !

Just noticed that the E-pertition mentioned as been signed by no less than Tony Blair...... So its being taken seriously......

Anyway while opinions are rife, Maggie ruined this country - definitely put the wheels in motion.

Just wished everybody would vote instead of being scared and confused.

actually not true. the miners strike caused real problems. but at the time miners were paid not much more than road sweepers £25 per week. not really on for one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. (most would agree)

Aorry mate it is factually is true, winter of discontent, the army being called in to collect the rubbush as everyone was on strike.

If it was not for the torys and maggie, she made the north sea oil get pumped ashore and the money saved the country.

go read up on it and you see.

true. the country would have collapsed, under Maggie, if it were not for North Sea oil. she squandered it. leaving the country with little, and its working people with even less.

I don't need to read up on it. i lived and worked through it.

when labour got in the conservatives had at least left the bank full off money and gold .. all gone now ..

and that's not true either. when the election finished in 1997, they UK had a massive national debt. over the last 10 years the debt was reduced to, virtually, zero. its all gone now for sure. but its gone to pay for the mistakes and unfairness of the Thatcher doctrine. the reason the banks could get into the mess they have, is because regulation was removed from them. leading to the doctrine of greed, which has lead us to the disaster we face now. its true the Labour(?) government has done too little to change this culture (too greedy themselves, me thinks) but the root and the greed that fed it lay squarely with the disaster that was the Thatcher decade.

I'll rest my case now, history will tell the story. unfortunately for the Maggie fan club, its already removing the gloss. little of her "claimed" successes are seen as such, even now. things will only get worse, for her and her cronies. and in 20 years time (roughly when we get out of this mess) the view will be clearer. still we did need the Monster. you always need a disaster or disasters to learn. i only hope we do.

I would never suggest he was perfect, or anywhere near. but looking how much "Scottish oil money" she pi$$ed down the drain, and the reasons she did it, its a small error in comparison. remember he and blair decided to turn conservative in order not to upset big business. in truth they did it much better than Maggie did. we still got in the same $hit though. its the doctrine/system that is in error, not those who implement it.

your totally wrong there.

this in 77 when the bin went on strike and the rubbish was piling up and rat in the streets, then all the other strikes that followed under labour.

the country was 8 weeks away from bankrupcy if were not for maggie getting that oil ashore.

think you do need to read up as your way off the mark with that statmenet.

you keep telling me to read about something i lived through. unless you did too. how the hell do you know what happened (i am assuming you did though). you only have the history, written by the Victors. not always the most reliable source. you also seem to think Maggie had some hand in the discovery of north sea oil. which is so far from the truth as to be laughable. true the main streams come on line during her first stint. but the discovery and infrastructure was put in place when Maggie was stealing the milk from our kids mouths. and by the following Labour government. Maggie only wasted it.

Guess what...

Dr Kalvis Jansons, an academic mathematician<< His is my ex lecturer....

I did my Masters at UCL few years back... and he taught a couple of lessons in one of the module...
Interesting guy....

Need to pass this news around to my classmate...

Can somebody explain this ^^ post to me please...?

I initially thought the guy was on drugs, but I re-read the first post.

It appears that the initiator of the petition was the aforementioned Kalvis Jansons, and the poster was one of his students a few years ago.

Ah, got it now, thanks Seedy.

forgetting that the Oil and money would have come ashore, anyway. Thatchers magic carpet frittered the money away. but had no hand it finding or getting it ashore.

I wonder what the point of this petition is? GB will not resign, no Labour MP will put pressure on him to resign regardless of what their constituents feel/demand/want. What we think does not matter. You can vote Labour or Conservative but both represent the same thing. This just makes me wonder what could have been if John Smith had not passed away and gone on to win the election in 97.

The whole thing is one big sorry affair. The bankers have just committed the biggest robbery in history stealing the wealth of a nation and our childrens future, aided and abetted by our government and all we are asking for in the politest possible manner is that GB resign? On one hand I commend any action against the government but on the other hand I can't get my head around how disproportionate our reaction has been.
