Paedophile found murdered

Police were today investigating the murder of a paedophile whose body was dumped in woodland.

Gordon Boon, 73, of Norwich, was found dead in Great Witchingham, Norfolk, on Monday.

Post mortem tests found he died from strangulation, police said.

Sources close to the investigation today confirmed Mr Boon was jailed for six years in 2001 after being convicted of sex offences against young girls.

A police spokeswoman said: "Officers are following up a number of lines of inquiry."

Mr Boon was last seen alive near to the Maid's Head Hotel, in Norwich, on 3 October.

Update - Picture of murdered paedophile

A murder investigation was underway today after a body found near Norwich was identified as that of a convicted paedophile.

Police last night confirmed that the body found on Rabbit Lane, Great Witchingham, was that of 73-year-old Norwich man Gordon Boon.

A murder investigation has been launched after he was found strangled with blood around his mouth and nose and one sock and a shoe missing.

His body had been dumped and covered by fence panels.

In 2001 the Evening News told how pensioner Mr Boon, then 66, was jailed for six years for sexually assaulting a young girl after plying her with alcohol and playing strip poker with her.

He was placed on the sex offenders' register for life after admitting two offences of indecent assault and two serious sex offences against one girl, two indecent assaults on a second girl and one indecent assault on a third.

Norwich Crown Court was told boon took pornographic Polaroid pictures of the girl who was 13 at the time.

The other offences were committed against another 13-year-old and an eight-year-old.

At the time he was living in St Mary's Close, Attleborough, prior to moving to the city. Police would not confirm when he was released from jail.

Today, a former neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “He lived here with his wife and their children.

“I used to say hello to him and he was always friendly. I believe he worked at Gaymer's cider making business in Attleborough, but that is closed now.

“He used to drink at The Cock pub in Attleborough and he would take part in their fund-raising for old people's homes.”

Mr Boon was last seen alive in Tombland near the Maid's Head Hotel last Friday, October 3.

His body was found by a member of the public in remote woodland near the Bernard Matthews factory at about 12.45pm on Monday.

A post mortem at the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston was expected yesterday. While it is not clear exactly how Mr Boon died, it is believed he was strangled and detectives say they are following up several lines of inquiry and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Detective chief inspector Steve Strong, who is heading the investigation, said: “We would appeal for anyone that may have seen anything suspicious in the Rabbit Lane and Porters Lane areas of Great Witchingham to come forward with information that might prove useful to our investigation.

“We are also very keen to trace the final movements of Mr Boon and would like to hear from anyone that may have seen him since October 2.”

Sentencing Mr Boon in December 2001, judge Paul Downes said he had “failed to accept” responsibility for his actions and ordered that on his release he should be subjected to an extended licence period of five years.

The court heard the games of strip poker would nearly always end up with the girl naked, at which point Boon would “start to interfere with her”.

In mitigation the defence solicitor said Boon was an unsophisticated man and was “very sorry for what has happened.”

I feel no remorse for the bloke, he's monster and deserves to be put down.

I all for the hanging/death penalty to be brought back to clear out some of our over crowded prisons.

Just get all the peado's, rapists, murderers ( not manslaughter, well depends on the case), place them all on a deserted off shore island and fuel-air bomb the feckers, or just let me loose with an M60.

Just done a quick Google and is costs about 30k a year to house an inmate, that is our money.
