Hi there,

Does anyone know if I can do this? I dont use my landline much, but I'd like to still be contactable on it.

I'm currently weighing up whether I would rather spend the £10-11 a month on faster broadband or keep the land line [and] number I've had for years.

no Voip numbers actuall are ovned by the voip company and aslo runslightly ddiffrent than standard numbers

Eg

if some one in my own area code rings me all they dial is the end number EG 254138 (no area code)(Not my real number)

BUT if its a voip phone the have to include the dialing code regardles of where they are .... even if its next door EG 01924 254138

this has only proved a problam when phoning the local takeaway and then having to explain why they need to put the area code in to dial me :)

also take into account 999 calls DO NOT WORK from VOIP phones

but my phone line has been cut form telewest now for 1 month and it if excelent

I use Sipgate for my telephone number and voipcheap for free calls to landlines (Day and night) my wife gasses to her m8ts for hours (and i can still recive calls on the sipgate line) and intotal it dont cost me more than £5 a month (Before our phone bill was £30 a month on avarage)

Also recomend using a netgear TA612V that way you can use Sipgate & voipcheap with odanary phones :) (no need for a pc)

hope that helps a little

i am intrested in going this route
from what i can gather i need to sing up for a number with sipgate
then join voipcheap (to get best deal on calls)
buy a netgear box to put my phones in
and thats it ??
can i then recive 2 calls at once ?
can i recive calls when my pc is off ?

do you use an adaptor to convert yer std phones to voip??

yeah you need an adapter to use a standard phone
if you look here it will show you the products that they do
i have just went and bought a usb phone off ebay to see what its like as these adapters are about £50
So i should know how it all works soon

hi there i purchased the netgear ta612v from sipgate, which works fine but can anyone tell me how i can configure it so i can use voipcheap on the 2nd line. thanks

hi there thanks for the reply, but problem is that i think its locked to sipgate because when i access the netgear TA612V it doesnt allow u to add another provider, does it require a firmware change? cos if it does then sipgate states u can open the firmware but will no longer be able to use there service.??? anymore help would be appriciated thanks.

i got my phone todaY having a bit of bother to get them to work along side each other
