Has anyone had a play with one of these especially for use with open elec or xbmc.

I just been given one

:)

loads of info on here m8 have a try on the search function first them if stuck come back :)

The A model only has 256 mb of memory this can be limiting .

I have the B model 512mb and it runs XBMC pretty good OpenELEC for me it the fastest and uses less resources than the others.

Rasbmc here - works flawlessly. Plays HD streams without any stutter better than a lot of those Android boxes in my opinion. Give me a shout if you need any help with it.

Rasbian is good image i purchased from china some heatsinks the temperature is not high and it will run stable.

i used Arctic silver and it run without freezing. But first one i had with bug which heatsink couldnt solve.

yeah, I've got 2 android boxes, one a dual core and one a quad core. They are quicker then Pi in menus and searching but but crash way to much and have custom ROM which means you end up relying on some chinese company to provide updates. The Pi has got its own optimised XBMC distro with tons of support. And as you say plays back pretty much anything even with its single core 700 MHz CPU.

I use my model b as sickbeard sabnzb downloader and a samba drive and xbmc media centre

I used the model B with raspbian but openelec was so much better for XBMC. It still didnt have enough 'beef' for me tho so I swapped it out for an old netbook with XBMCbuntu. I believe the model A's are good for being mobile as they drain less power from a battery supply. I was thinking of using mine as a simple client plugged into the tv that VNC's wirelessly into the netbook server. Or Add two wifi adapters and turn it into a wireless accesspoint rebro. So many possibilities.

I use mine to run a Subsonic Server which works very well.
Previously I was using a Mac Mini but that was overkill.

Very happy with it.

Doesn't have the full processing power but will run XBMC no probs, just be patient with it

I love the Raspberry Pi, I've got 2 model B, 1 model B+ and a Banana Pi. One of them is connected to the rear of my main TV and I use it as a retro games machine using Retro-Pie it plays all the 8 and 16Bit stuff brilliantly. Another one is in my bedroom running OpenElec, I use my android phone as a remote control sheer bliss. :)

Which do you use for the Retro-Pie? Model B or B+ ?

I have a B spare which I was going to use with the camera module I bought recently, but might make a games machine out of it.
