Hi Guys,

Just need a little advice going to change a ceiling light in a bathroom, but I need to do a little rewire at the same time. The wiring has got warm in a previous light and the wires brittle. I am going to take them back some way but he problem is there are about 5 sets of 2 core wire incoming. Question is are domino blocks still the norm for connenction wire plus insalltion tape or is it better to solder the wires and heat shrink or are there any better ways. Seen some porcanlain block in b&q today.

Cheer

i would have thought a junction box of the correct rating would be better

That looks like a nice way to do it, although i'm unsure if i'll have the room in the new fitting and I dont thing there enough room to put it back into the cavaty. Nice idea though. I'll have a look on screwfix to see what available to get on a sunday.

Can you not put the junction box under the floorboards in the room above and then run the cable down into the room you require?

now that would be the loft space, never really thought of pushing all the cables back up into the loft and just running spur off.

If you decide to do it mate there is two golden rules

number 1 make sure you walk on the joists when you are in the loft
number 2 Switch of at the mains before attempting electricity work

Good luck and keep us posted

I'm fine with eletrics guys I just wanted some ideas how sparkies whould handle it to make it look good. Now if don't post back by the end of the day or my typing looks shakey then ive even blown myself up or fallen through the ceiling. Ha ha.

Well a quick trip to s/fix and two hours of screaming and shouting whilst laying on my front getting scratched to chuff with rockwool and the jobs a good an. Let hope I dont have to do that again in the near future. Thanks again all.

as long as u dont start any fires with your diy in the near future, then lets hope your ok. lol

Number 3 don't forget a torch and hope you're not colour blind

That is not a rule it is just plain common sense.

But surely 1and 2 are common sense also, if you want to be critical and not take the post as intended

Rule 1 always walk on joists when you are in the loft
rule 2 always switch off at the mains before carrying out any electricity work
rule 3 Don,t forget to check to see if your torch is working properly before entering the loft.

End of discussion

Well its obvious your'nt taking the post as intended, the post was not criticising
your common sense ruling but mearly adding a spark of banter because some people that attempt diy [original poster excluded] are clearly somtimes not capable, so at this point may I end the discussion.
