i thought my kitchen sink was blocked earlier but my dishwasher has just leaked on the floor so it looks like the waste water pipe is frozen, any suggestions?

you could pour some water with loads of salt in to try clear it

sorted thanks, hairdryer job and have now lagged it with foam, an old duvet cover and plastic sacks taped over that so hopefully wont freeze again
it's funny you hear of the water mains freezing coming into the house, i never thought of the outlet pipe freezing though

That happened in my house when i was a kid, someone had left the bathroom tap trickling all night.

you'd think if the tap was left running the pipe wouldnt freeze?
my dishwasher wouldnt work afterwards, think i've fixed it now though, think there was an airlock in the water supply pipe, sounds okay anyway fingers crossed :banana:

one of my car doors was frozen shut yesterday, the others opened. there was a layer of ice on the inside of the windscreen last night as well, must have been damp inside the car from snow from our shoes

they are probably used to dealing with it and have all their pipes properly insulated and the roads get gritted regularly. probably have the proper clothing and gear for their shoes as well.

i had exacley the same thursday night, uncliped the pipe poured some hot water from the kettle over it, then used the brush handle to clear the remaining block of ice from inside the pipe.
