Lafarge cement works use shreaded old tyres along with coal to fire the clinker kiln. There is a special scrubber to clean the emmisions from the burning.

Seen these used as pellets for sports arenas and remoulded into playground surfaces and raised areas at bus stops to aid elderly people to embark and disembark, someone is making a killing out of them and the steel bands will soon mount up as scrap metal also.

Shredded rubber is used in many things. soles of slippers is a good one and also the rubber mats you see when going into shops etc they tend to be recycled rubber.

As already said playgrounds, bit soft now we used to have gravel n glass not bouncy stuff!!!

river bank erosion protection, they siply stackem up along the bank and then drop concrete into them, seen it done on the ribble.

The guy who fits my tyres told me he has to pay £1 per tyre to dispose of them, and they get melted down and used in the soft rubber ground on play parks etc as already said, or some type of oil for tarmac.

Frenchman

There are only so many uses for recycled tires.

A lot get shipped off to 3rd world where they used some more until they are worn down to the belts, then they can pretty much do what they want with them.
