screen cracked from inside HP wont honour warranty

My nephew laptop screen is cracked from inside, where as the outside is fine yet HP wont honour warranty and say its accidental damage

Now I am under the impression, if damage is due to an impact then the outside screen will be damaged, where as on this laptop no damage outside.

Is this a common issue with laptops ?

A small number of US HP customers are reporting this issue on the D7 and DV6 models. Seems to mainly occur during opening or closing the lid. As usual HP are refusing to admit liability.

See if your local trading standards can advise you further.

If you have accidental damage cover included on your home insurance, maybe worth claiming on that,if its a half decent machine
