I have heard that the VU+ box is very good, Do any of you recommend something which may be better?

Yea the vu+ series is great. Which one in particular are you looking at?

I have a duo clone and its great. The solo2 and duo2 are the latest in the series

I'm looking sseriously at the Vue + duo 2 with Twin tuners.
I have posted a question of where is the best place to get one but that won't be answered as it breaks the site rules.

I have ordered a Vue 2 Duo with twin tuner at a price of £423
This is guaranteed to be genuine and not a clone

Now have to get a hard drive for it. will probably go for solid state @ 250 GB
Will see how much they are going for.

you can get a vu solo2 for a £200+

The hdd would be used for recording ? A ssd would very overkill for this and pricy unless I am missing something.

I have SSD in all my boxes..yep a little pricey but well worth the money never cause any problems and you get about ten years out of them..No heat and no noise..
They have come down in price a lot you can get a decent 120gb SSD now for around fourty quid.

I was thinking of a 250-300gb for my laptop but its price vrs storage £40 120gb ssd same price for 1tb hdd

I use a HDD from an old skybox in my duo, cost me nothing as had it for a while and great job. Lots of people have old ones lying about if you ask you might get one and take the HDD from it
