So my 14 year old son went with his mates to town and went into a gaming store, he bought an item and was told he should have an account at which point the sales person took address and date of birth information. My question is, how legal is this..?? Surely without a parents consent they should not be requesting this kind of information should they..??

Thanks in advance.

Would be common enough practice to ask for those details when opening an account in gaming store, helps them to make sure they don't sell an age inappropriate game to them

The Data Protection Act does not specify any "age of consent", merely that the person is competent to be able to consent.
