Oops, Jeremy Clarkson has been promoting his ratings again:

Jeremy Clarkson 'Slope' Comment Could Mean BBC Is Sued For £1 Million

JC probably knew exactly what he was saying but I had to look it up.

Coincidentally, my brother told me about a talk he gave to some teenagers recently about wine making. When he got to 'racking' the horrified gasps suggested he'd said something inappropriate. It turns out that 'racking' means either masturbation or a wallop in the nuts in 'yoof-speak' depending on which faction you're talking to.

So, I thought I'd do some research on slang, racist/sexist/something-else-ist terms that have been misappropriated or mangled in case I offended anyone. There are hundreds if not thousands.

For example, '10% off', did YOU know it was a racial slur (Jews)?

Anyway, look them up yourself at The Racial Slur Database

I've decided not to get involved. I will continue to use words in Standard English (both context and meaning) and if the PC Brigade don't like it they can swivel on something pointy and sharp. I will studiously ignore their wails of protest along with their supercilious and anally-retentive demeanour.

On a more technical note, my aging Draytek is about to give up the ghost, needing daily reboots as it does. Fortunately, my night in shining armour (in the form of BT) should be here on Thursday next to install fibre.

Which of course means I should be able to offend the po-faced considerably more rapidly.

In the meantime, may your beer be cold and your barbecue hot :)

Lets talk about the hijacking of the word "gay" then. Find another word ffs! : gun :

I'm feeling rather gay at the moment in a perfectly heterosexual and non-homophobic way.

Given the word 'gay' has been changing (in common-usage terms) for (possibly) centuries it would be a tricky argument. In sexuality terms, probably (as we know it) from about 1960? However, its changing state goes back MUCH further. I can't think of another word is the short answer although its usage is still changing and in 'yoof-speak' its link to sexuality is much less clear.

Some argue its meaning of 'lame' or 'rubbish' is linked to homosexuality. Maybe it was at some point in the past but that link seems to have been lost over time.

Anybody remember a washing powder called Daz (not the loader).
It's leading competitor was called Omo. That brand name was dropped for some reason.;)

Over sensitivity is not really new, just gets dafter.

Remembered another one. There was a slimming product which used to be called "Aids".:)

In relation to that Top Gear programme and going by that Racial Slur Database, maybe someone on here that was born in London within the sound of the Bow Bells should also raise a £1 Million Racist claim.
As James May always manages to say "Oh Cock !" and according to the Racial Slur Database that is a racist term for a Cockney.

In the style of Jeremy Clarkson I would like to say "All those PC twats need to be strung up and flogged for wasting breath, time and money !"

A box of OMO visible in the kitchen window was the "all clear" signal in many an army base back in the day.
Stood for old man out

It was in the 60s, Gay Byrne (an Irish current affairs presenter, short for Gabriel), caused a few sniggers.

Couldn't remember his name last night, but woke up today with it, wiki did the rest.

Happens quite a bit now. I can remember my mother's (and aunt's) Co-op "divi" numbers from the mid 50s.

Two months back, no chance!:Biggrin2:

Got me started now! More mangled English, if not quite in the same way:-

Sanction......It used to mean allow, or permit. It now means to restrict, or block.

Leverage.....For a start, pronounced "leeverage". It's applied mainly in financial twaddle, so where's the fulcrum!

Hot / Cool... Is it cool to be hot, is it hot to be cool, are they both the same thing?
...................I'll speak "yoof'' when they've got the money. Until then, communication is their problem.

Blow job.......Not as I understand it!:Biggrin2:

Why copy this crap from a country that can't even put a toggle, or rocker switch the right way up!:)
