While it's father's day. Can i urge all of our male members to go to the doctor if they have ANY problems with their wee or have pains in the groin area for a check up.
i've just been through a year of anxiety and treatment for prostate cancer, hopefully it's been sorted.
if caught early, before it leaves the prostate the chance of recovery is infinitely more promising.

Great post m80!

I agree, one thing I would say is us men can be a bit blasé about things like that, but it's only 15 at the docs for a checkup!

Good post mate and glad to hear your on the mend :)

Thanks for your good wishes.
I would like to say, with all the bad stories lately about the NHS, my experience of all the people that have treated me, (and there have been a lot of them) has been fantastic and fast. God bless them all, they do a wonderful job.

Excellent Post.

Hope everything works out for you matey.

Regards
Mick

Glad to hear you are 'on the mend' PS, I know more people than I can count on two hands who have suffered/died/suffering from this silent killer. What puzzles me is the lack of routine screening. Women are actively encouraged to get screened for breast & cervical cancers, so why none for men? It would surely save money (and lives) if this disease was detected early. I recently had my PSA checked after a friend (younger than I) was diagnosed. My level was safe, but I shall be going regularly from now on. Can't be too careful.

Sometimes P.S.A. testing is not enough and sometimes is very inaccurate. A scan will always show the cancer within the prostate.

Lost my pal with this terrible disease and his P.S.A. was normal, yet he had the aggressive type of Prostate Cancer which had spread with very few symptoms of something was wrong.

Screening would be a big step forward with other forms of examination also.

Yea, I read yesterday that an MRI scan should be given before a biopsy (which can be very intrusive and nasty, luckily not in my case).
I had a biopsy then MRI to see if it had spread. The PSA test i think is an indicator whether to perform a biopsy. Although mine was 5.1 but had doubled in 10 years. Whereas my friend's was 38 (which worried him greatly). However, he had a biopsy and no cancer was found neither in his scan. They are keeping an eye on him though.

Great post mate and i am glad everything has worked out well for you.

Great post and all the best in your recovery. If anyone is interested in using diet and nutrition to help/prevent cancer google 'Jane Plant cancer'.

Pleased it all sounds good for you M8.

Now, I know this next bit is gonna sound a bit way out but it's not meant to be funny or cryptic.

There seems to be a lot of evidence that 'use it or lose it' is true in this case.

Or, to put it bluntly, you could reduce your risk with regular, erm, 'action'. If I have to put it right on the nail, ejaculation 3-4 times a week.

Sorry, no way of putting that politely!

I think I'd go along with that assuming you have the opportunity lol. At first I had to have hormone implants to shrink the prostate before radiotherapy could be given. For over a year not one thought about sex entered my head. It was strangely liberating.

A word of warning to anybody about to have a PSA test, do not ejaculate for at least 48 hours before the test because it can temporarily raise the PSA level.

Can only echo the advice in this thread, my grandfather died from prostate cancer and it was only for keeping things to himself and not talking/seeing anyone about it.

Peace.

I'm sure we've all done it.. some get away with it, some don't.

Hi.
You Are Right, Don't Just Leave, Go & See A Doctor.
I Lost My Father 4 Years Past With Prostate Cancer Because He Would Not Go & See About It.
I Now Have A Blood Test Done Every 2 Years To Check As They Say It Can Be Hereditary.
Life Is Worth Living.

I lost an uncle a few years back to this horrible illness.
A good friend underwent radiotherapy for this last year and thank goodness is now totally clear.
Personally, I was and still am having problems in the peeing department but prostate cancer was quickly ruled out.
However, I then had to have a camera inserted all the way up into my bladder which I can honestly say was the worst thing I've ever experienced.
It still brings tears to my eyes every time I think of it.

one of best mates was checked out 2 years on the trot and given to all clear by a male doctor. last month was checked out by female doctor and bang has advanced (terminal) prostate cancer so get a second check done if your still worried.

Thanks for your good wishes.
