Thread: Dulux white Gloss Paint turning yellow

Forum: General Chat

I painted my skirting and doors with 'dulux non drip white gloss', about 15 months ago within a matter of months all the paint turned yellow or a cream type colour, anyway I phoned up Dulux customer services to complain today about the dud paint, and they have given me vouchers for 5L non drip gloss paint, 2 tins of 2.5l undercoat, and a 10L of diamond paint of my choice. DID ask the question on, if they were going to cover the cost of a decorator for a couple days, they said they can but I

Can't be bothered with the hassle so took the vouchers, no proof of purchase

Only ball ache is finding time to repaint everything now

Apparantly alot of complaints have been made and has been covered in both the press and watchdog , it was all because of a new EU legislation on lowering co2 emissions, Dulux had to change thier ingredients to comply with the legislation not knowing the paint will turn yellow later on.

Anyway excellent customer services from Dulux. well done.

give it ago if you want free paint.

I saw that watchdog report but apparently they changed the composition of the paint last year so this shouldn't happen any more, they did say however that they cant be totally sure if it's filtered through the supply chain fully so there might be a few rogues cans out there.

I watched this on watchdog too, something about the EU forcing companies to change their oil paints, for environmental reasons, they had to reduce the volatile organic compounds in the paint. Other companies put a warning on there tin that the white paint might turn yellow and dulex didn't apparently.

Anyone had any joy with water-based? I've tried a few and while they're great for cleaning up afterwards the application is a bit tricky. They seem to skin quickly so over-brushing shows up straight away and any oil/grease spots bubble...

    VOCs are way down though

I think it was just an arse that answered the phone too me tbh lol ! I explained I poss do have the tin, but if I do it is at the back of my 6mtr deep shed ! and would take at least a day to dig it out. That was if I kept it at all as I used it all, so was pretty sure I binned it.
His attitude was, tough ... no proof - go away.

I called back a little while later and got a better lad, who asked if I had paint etc... when did I buy it, where.... and then said was sending me vouchers for 5lts gloss and 10ltrs emulsion
