Virgin Media to double the speed of customer broadband

Well, I have a Superhub on the way now.

I'm very fond of the router I'm using and I've read that they can be put into modem-only mode.

Is there anything I need to know about Superhubs?

I have my old router plugged into my superhub and it's not set on modem only mode and I can choose either don't ask me how it works it just does.
because I was not getting a great signal in my bedroom I'm still not getting full download speed in bedroom around 20 instead of 30
but in the living room I can use either and get the full speed as long as they don't throttle it

with the kids in the house in different rooms there is up to 2 laptops 2 desktops ps3 xbox couple of ds's and sometimes my sony tv all connecting at different times if the superhub does not have the router plugged in about half will work.

Sounds like the 100 meg customers would be better of downgrading to the 50 meg service and then they will be put back up to 100 meg.
I'm not sure why I would pay extra to have 20meg more on the 100 meg package than sticking with the lower one.

The amount you pay only changes if you are already on 100Mb. If you are, then we’ll shortly be giving you a discount on your monthly subscription. We will be in contact to let you know when the discount will be applied

I'm thinking I should downgrade to 20Mb since 20Mb customers are going to be upgraded to 60Mb same as the existing 30Mb customers

If its the same as last time they bumped people up, the ones who were paying for the higher tier in the first place get a higher bandwidth allocation.

at the moment, i'm on 10meg, using their modem and a netgear router(my own).
if and when i get the upgrade, will it be the new 'super'hub all in one job? and will it affect my cs?

u can get lower than 10mb if u ask - they just don't publish it.

if i go up to 20, i'll reduce my BB back to 10 and save the cash!

I thought only offered less then 10mb for existing connections ?

There is a post code checker to find out when you get the upgrade, it's not online till Friday tho, check here

It does seem to be pot luck with these modems. So far mine has been OK.

They wouldn't give it to me when I asked for it for my Dad.

He's an old todger and less than 1Mb would have done him fine but the lowest speed they could give him was 10Mb.

It's a disgrace, he only goes onto Youtube once a twice a week to listen to some old records but they said 10Mb was the lowest they could provide and everyone else on the lower packages were soon going to be upgraded out of their existing package.

hhmm.. when i was looking at downgrading all my packages a few months back i said "is the 10mb BB the cheapest u can offer me?" he said he could offer 5 or 2 (can't remember) for cheaper

just to note, existing 100mb customers should be getting a discount when the speed increases happen.

Also a lot of the new contracts in the last year or so don't officially allow you to download your service.

For those who are on 100mb do you ever download faster than your hdd can write? Seen this problem with newsleecher on sata2 drives. 120mb will be great for those with sata3 drives but otherwise you wont get to enjoy the full speed.
