Virgin Media to double the speed of customer broadband

I've been with both virgin and BT.

Virgin 20 meg in my old house, when I moved to Berkshire with my current partner I was gutted that virgin wasn't in our area as I thought I'd be stuck with shitty ADSL.

I then went on the BT website and seen BT infinity was available in my area, happy days :)

Signed up for it and ive had it in about 6 months now and I'm well happy with it, I prefer infinity to virgin tbh, I can download at 37meg all day and it's never been throttled.... yet, unlike virgin who used to throttle it half way through downloading a 4.5gig film.

The Fair usage policy on BT is quite bad though as far as I can remember. Something like a 1MB connection for 30 days

But in terms of speed, BT are trying, but not succeeding, to catch up to virgin. :)

Personally because they are not doubling the 100mb speed I think a price reduction should be in order as we are getting the short end of the straw.
They are reducing the price for everyone who is currently on 100 :)

Thats a first, normally you have to keep an eye on their website deals then ring up to get the reduction, I did it when I was on 50mb last year, because the regular price after the special offer was £9 less then I was paying at the time, having upgraded from 20mb to 50mb.

I wonder if my 2meg will go up to 4? :)

Well, I have a Superhub on the way now.

I'm very fond of the router I'm using and I've read that they can be put into modem-only mode.

Is there anything I need to know about Superhubs?

Yeah they're crap
If you have a decent modem stick the hub in modem only mode.
When i first received it i had no problems but now the wireless signal
on the hub is poor at best for me & keeps dropping connection

My router is quite old but I've had no problems with it, seems stable and does what I want. I had read that Superhubs were Mediocrehubs :). I don't want wireless either, I'm old fashioned :).

I really tried to get it working properly, tried both 2.4 Ghz & 5Ghz the wireless connections at first were stable even though the signal range was never great but now they are awful.

2 goes upto 5 after the upgrades

Ace, I was joking usually they don't bother with cheap skates like me, I'll be able to watch the streams without it stopping every 10 seconds, yeah.

It's probably cheaper now to get 10MB.

The 20MB package doesn't exist now, it's "up to 30MB" and I think if you are on 20MB you're probably paying more than 30MB customers.

Unless you are on an old package then I believe the current 4 options are 10mb, 30mb, 50mb and 100mb. Out of these, except the 10mb service the rest should already be on superhub for new installs.

I'm paying £16 for S broadband and L phone, and they through in 10p to any mobile which is ment to be £1.50 a month. I'm well happy with my deal but must admit a few extra meg would be nice.

I added telly to my package on 3/Nov last year & upgraded my BB from 10MB to 20MB so it was definitely still an option then. They tried to get me to go to 30MB but I declined due to the bad press the superhub receives. Kept my original Ambit but looks as though I'll be getting a 'superhub' to allow me receive the upgraded 60MB.
I'm quite happy about it overall though, as it's a free upgrade imho. No use complaining about the throttling either, live with it or leave.
HH.

u can get lower than 10mb if u ask - they just don't publish it.

if i go up to 20, i'll reduce my BB back to 10 and save the cash!
