Are mac programs just as easy to get hold of as their windows counterparts on newsgroups?

My favourite laptop is my old G3 and today I've been playing around with a G5 and it was a smooth experience, much nicer than windows OS so I'm thinking of making the switch.

Any pro or cons to changing from members who use both?

all depends what your after, not many people / groups release for mac

I recently got hold of the new Adobe package for Windows and I love it. I will mainly be using Photoshop and Premier Pro for personal needs with Word, Excel and PP for work.

I have a Windows based lappy which I could use in emergency cases but it would be hopeless in rendering my video content so video editing software such as Final Cut would be very important.

I did a quick search in the usual places for Mac software but not much came up :(

Mac Software def harder to find, Office 2008 shouldn't be a prob, Adobe is possible as it's a popular proggie but still hard to find the latest.

I normally badger regular mac users to see what they've got as I don't use the mac os regular.

Mac software id just as easy to get hold of as windows stuff.

only issue yo might have is finding out what the proggy is called on a mac but main ones like orrifice and photoshop etc have same name.

as to say some windows publishers dont publish on the mac but you will get a company who will and it be called something totally different but does more or less the same thing.

there a few good mac newsgroups. for example ;)

There are normally plenty of mac equivalents to windows software and many of them will actually do a mac version any way :)

I got a mac about a year ago and very rare do I need to use windows and if I do I just fire up fusion and its there...

Mac software is easy to get hold of i have been able to get whatever i have needed for my macbook air and my macbook pro.

I have a Sony laptop and honestly i hardly use that i am using the macbook mainly its just great all round machine.

Thanks gents, I'm going to build one as soon as I can find the most recent OS. I have a PC which is ready to be formatted so in the words of Murray it's GO GO GO.

LOL I just discovered that we have a Mac section :Jester:

I have recently made the change to Mac from Windows and have found that you can find programs that do the same as on Windows but you gotta trawl the net to find them.

Overall though, I would recommend Mac OSX over the Windows based operating systems.

Mac software is just as easy to get as windows, hotiso tend to release all the major packages.

Only one I have had problems with is Ableton Live.

Also I highly recommend installing little snitch to block ET from phoning home

On Windows you might find 10-15 or even more software that does what you want, where as on a Mac you may only find 1-2 apps that do the same.

Best thing to do is ask if you are looking for a type of app to do somethingand someone will drop you a name to search for.

macs are coming more and more popular soon almost everyone will have one then software will be very easy to get but also we will see loads of viruses

but at the mo it is quite easy to get what your looking for
