Wet room - shower trap or gully

Guys - I need some advice.

Can the shower traps that are used with shower trays be used in wet rooms? Can they be buried in concrete and tiled around? If stuck in concrete and tiled around is ok - will it last long?

i've been looking at the shower gullies at http://www.mcalpineplumbing.com/productlist.asp but these appear to be really expensive.

    Is there a cheaper solution?

any help will be appreciated...cheers, K

If you are going to concrete the whole floor and tile on top a gully would be better, however you can still use a shower trap and waste pipe. The only problem I can see is if the waste pipe leaks your concrete will go damp under the tiles. Should be ok as it won't move, you could put some wood either side of the pipe too to help protect it, and make it easier to get out instead of digging the concrete out from around it.

I'm pretty certain that the outlet goes straight into your 1 1/2" or 2" grey waste pipe and then on into your 4" pipe.

I once did a wet room in a basement with a 4" Soil P Trap doing the dirty work with a shiny chrome grill instead of the cheap plastic one that came with the trap.

    thanks guys

the local diy shop guy told be about using the P trap but the only thing that put me off was the ugly looking plastic grill on top. if i can get a fancy steel grill then the P Trap solution you have also mentione wiuld be really cheap.

    any other thoughts....

just dont fully cover the pvc pipe with concrete as it will not set against concrete and tile over it allowing easy access should anything go wrong which i doubt as pvc is very durable

You can always surround the pipe in fine P Shingle and not concrete, I just did that for the soil system at my house. It will provide support and flex to your waste pipe.
