One of my side light bulbs has gone so I had a quick look to see how easy it is to replace.

FFS what a nightmare! I couldn't see any easy way so had a quick browse to see how to do it.

Can anybody confirm that this is the only way?

You need to remove the trim covering the inner wing, this is done by removing the retaining clip at the front and the pas fluid resovoir cap.
The black trim then lifts off.
There is not much room to get to the back of the headlight, but it is possible.
Remove the cover on the back of the headlight.
remove the connector from the back of the bulb, by pulling it.
There is a clip holding the bulb in place, which you remove by pushing the clip to one side.
Replace the bulb, fitting it with the tab pointing upwards, refit the clip and connector. refit the covers.

you may be right there

my brother changed a bulb in his fiesta the other day, easy peasy

went to change the one on the other side and its a nightmare just like yours

Yes thats the correct way, done it quite a few times and theres not much room at all, I had loads of scraps on back of my hand. You can get away without removing trim on passenger side but drivers side needs trim removed, you can make it easier by pulling the water resevoir off on drivers side.

Do it during the day...I changed one for my m8 one night at work in the dark and it took me fekkin ages to get the retaining spring back on.
