.Theres a house thats been empty for about 15 years. It's a semi detached on a council estate. It's been burned out for about Six years or so. I asked the neighbours who it belonged to and was told an elderly couple lived there about 15 years ago , they died within weeks of each other. They had no family and the house lay empty for years , vandals got in and set fire to it causing a great deal of damage.

I am interested in buying it , but how do i find out who it belonged to. If it's true they had no known family , who would own the house. Is there a anyway i can find out. I thought it may have gone back to the local council but it's been left in a state for that many years it seems unlikely thats happened.

first place, ask the land registry.

you can also get a sollicitor to find out the info for you, which will be quicker but more expensive.

I would have thought your local council would be able to tell you.

If they can't, I'm sure they can point you in the right direction.

the council will take months to even get there. Land registry is the place to go.

Be warned though, they are going through a computerisation project rigt now - and not everything is on their new system
