Hi guys, i tried installing the new epg fix firmware on to the max using dnupman and voxer, but i had no luck with them both. I was using a usb serial as my laptop doesnt have a serial port, would this cause any problems?? Both programs would get to the point where they would try and communicate with the box, but then nothing would happen, i even tried changing the port assignments but that didnt work either. The strange thing with voxer was that i took the usb cable for the serial cable out of the laptop and it still said found max on port 3, so i changed the serial cable to port 3 and tried that and then it would say not detected. Any help much appreciated. Thank you

Hiya Mate,
I had exactly the same problem. When using voxer the com port has to be 1 or 2. I ended up using my home PC and it found it straight away(I have a PCMCIA to serial which it wouldn't find!).
You will need to make your card com port 1 or 2 and hopefully it will work

Voxer will accept any com port, but I have found a problem whereas some of the PCMCIA and USB cards seem to confuse it sometimes. I am currently working on a fix to try and stop it doing this. It has happened on my laptop as well. Never happened on my desktop. It seems to have something to do with the third party serial port communications package I used when I developed the software.

The way the Eurovox detection works is a sequence of characters is sent to the box and the Eurovox replies with the sequence, the bug basically makes it loop so Voxer thinks it has found a Eurovox and then looks no further. Sometimes it has to send more than once before it gets a reply so it tries com1 then com2 and com3 and so on. If it doesn't get a reply on com1 and com2 first time then com3 always replies because of the looping.

I will let you know as soon as I have had a chance to sort out the minor problem.

On the original problem above, it seems as though it is not finding a Eurovox at all, the com3 is just a red herring.

spot on mate, thanx for the reply, even when i unplugged the usb-serial, it said box found on port 3 which was very odd to say the least, so i stopped trying it, i think i will have to use a pc for now, cheers again

Unfortunately, a lot of these cards create a virtual serial port which arn't really there. Voxer does a scan of all serial ports and then tries them all in sequence until it finds a Eurovox. It tries them all then starts at 1 again for a cycle of 5 times. If after 5 times it doesn't receive a valid response it then says there is no Eurovox detected. With these virtual serial ports, some just loop the data round ( i.e. what is sent is received back on the same com prot ). It is here that it thinks it has found a Eurovox and doesn't go any further ). The trouble is that the Eurovox doesn't always respond on the first attempt so it gets it on the 2nd or 3rd attempt, but when you have the looping on the virtual port it thinks its got it.

Sometimes if you try again immediately after it says it found one on com3 then it works, but if there really isn't a Eurovox on there then it just stops on com3.

I will hopefully find a way round it very shortly and will release a new version of Voxer.

Nice one Steevo25 .....I love the Eurovox Max and using voxer on my home pc it is great, just don't like the thought that if a problem occurs with other peoples boxes having to bring them home to re-flash them......a lot easier taking laptop to other people...Thanks again

virtual comm port

Just curious if this problem has been sorted yet using voxer for euromax loader?

Hi Marty,

No, I havn't put a new version up yet. I was midway through writing the piece of code that causes the problem, but due to work commitments I havn't managed to finish it. What I intend to do is put in a little fix to make this bit work and release it over Xmas just to get rid of this problem. Then sometime after Xmas I will release a new version 3 which will have the few problems I know about fixed and also add some new functionality.

excellent news mate, keep up the good work, cnt wait for the new version cos i cnt afford to buy a computer just yet, so i need to use my lappy. cheers
