Hi,

I have got a brand new SB4200e and am about to hack it, when I power it on, the lights displayed as follows:

Power = On
Receive = Blinking
Send = Off
Activity = Off
Standby = Off

Is this modem functioning right? Do I have to reset defaults? Is this modem Dead?
FYI: when I go to the 192.. page, I get fibercoax page with green writing.
Would appreciate some help. Cheers

The modem is allready modified , all you have to do is change the mac and it should come online ,,,the led status is normal .

Regards

Thanks for you prompt response

I have changed the MAC on the modem from the hack.html page the modem restarts and i still get the same lights showing. I then cannot get into the hack.html page unless i go through the netboot.exe process. Is this normal?

I have been speaking to someone else regarding this, they said i need to set up the frequency etc. How do i do this?

To change the mac you do not need to netboot it all the time , have a read here http://www.world-of-digital.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79249 , to insert the d/s freq for your area just goto the config page and insert it there save and reboot the modem. The modem should lock on irrelevant weather or not you insert this freq. I have seen a lot of modems that do not go past locking onto the d/s freq. and the cause of that could be a faulty tuner.

Regards

I know i am asking for alot, but how do i find out the downstreame frequency for my area which is:

Chadwell Heath,
Romford,
London,

Do you have any ideas?

Thanks Koevoet

I`m not sure what area that is but it will be one of these:
TW: 331000000
NTL: 402750000
EXCW: 586750000

Regards

Thanks a million, I'll contact you if i get stuck, i'll contact you if thats ok. One lasthing before i go, can i run a sub modem on one computer and a hacked modem on another computer working at the same time. Cheers

Yes you can run the two modems on seperate computers , just get a 2-way splitter and split the feed. Feel free to contact me if you have any problems.

Regards

Sorry to be a pain, but the lights on the modem stay the same.
Power Light = constant
Receive = blinking
Please Help. Tried everthing above. Cheers

Software Version: SB4200E-0.4.4.6-SCM00-NOSH
Hardware Version: 3
MIB Version: II
GUI Version: 1.0
VxWorks Version: 5.3

Ok, after messing around, i got the fibercoax page, the one with green writing. I plugged the cable feed in, and got the the following lights:
Power = On
Receive = On
Send = On
Online = On
Activity = Off
Standby = Off

It looks like its working, although i cant get internet. I have uploaded a working MAC, he modem stays on for a while then all of a sudden it reboots. Is there a reason for this.. Do i do anything else to finish this hack off. Whats going wrong. Have i got the correct version as above. Please help.

Sounds like your using a mac on the same gateway.

I used DHCP to get the MAC, is that the right way of getting it. What MAC do i need from DHCP.

You are correct in using DHCP but you need to scan from another gateway,,3 or 4 miles away from your place,, anything in your surrounding area will be on your gateway, and when the modem reboots you knock the original owner of that mac offline as well,, you don`t want him complaining so do NOT connect the modem back up until you have a different mac.

ok, can it be traced, cause i think i left it on for about 10-15 mins, would NTL find out thats its me causing the problem. Another questions is that i dont know anyone who has ntl a mile or two away. Anywhere else i can obtain a MAC.

Cheers

No i wouldn`t worry about that ,,, if the customer was ringing to complain ,,i bet you he is still waiting for customer services to answer the phone.

phewww, lol

thanks for your help,

The thing i dont understand is, all the tutorials say use dhcp, but whats the point if you cant use the macs you scan. Am i missing something. Are the tutorials saying that scan with dhcp and trade or is it something else i can do.

Appreciate your help for everything. Cheers
