i heard a rumour from a mate of mine that works for tw who reckons that the new cr4 software (as i understand it )allows the cable companys to recieve talk back on any sports or movie chanels as these are apparently interactive.anyway hes gonna give me more details tomorow, im not trying to panick anybody as to me it dosent sound feasible but just thought ill pose the question to people that obviously no a lot more than me.

There are hardware modifications (apparently) that prevent any upstream transmission due to the line driver chip being disabled etc.

the tell here would seem to be put your box on a movie channel - turn it off and boot to the eng menu then check for upstream lock. or just press the interactive button on the box while on one of these channels??

i now have it from very good authority that they are able to know if your watching dodgy cable.how i understand it is that because the premier chanels are now interactive when you lock on to one it registers as a fault because the return path has been cut it shows up as rf power level to low, now they cannot tell which houses have or have not got it but they are able to tell what street or estate.

?
How would they know you are recieving the signal without a return path?

Clive.

This is utter rubbish !

With talkback cut you are essentially invisible on the network. You cannot be detected without them using some fairly sophisticated equipment in your local green cabinet.

If any channel requires interactive services in order to be viewable then you will not be able to view that channel with talkback cut - this is sort of how the new Teleport/VOD channels work !

At present the standard Sports/Movie channels do NOT use interactive services.
