hi all, ok just made my little connect with my max233, plugged it into n*l home 200 modem ru hyperterminal with all correct settins and nothing. what a let down lol, i think i know the problem i used a serial cable that wasent pin 1 to 1 and so on and that has some how damaged the max233, waiting to get another 1 but in the mean time can anyone tell me (just to make sure) that there isnt any special procedure to do . i will come back here when i have a new max233

Where did you manage to find a cross wired 9 pin D M/F LOL?

There is no special procedure as such, the comms proticol is bog standard.

Do you know that the modem was powered up correctly and is functional?

ok,,,,, just got a new serial cable and new max 233 wired it all up being especialy carefull. even got a new modem a 120 this time, i plug it in and still nothing,,, hyperterminal says connected but no info on the screen,,, it all looks so easy so i cant see where im goin wrong, i have gone off the idea its my modem or my interface thats the problem cause ive got new, so could some one tell me if its my hyperterminal???????????????

GND and 3.3V are obvious but have you wired TX on MAX232CPE to RXD on modem and vice-versa?

cheers spectre i got all the settings correct in hyperterminal,,, tried my 200 again and as i put power on i pressed a key and it stoped the modem bootin up so i know im gettin some communication out of it

Do you get any data in the HT window from the modem at all?

here spectre sos i got the names mixed up modem tutorial its called,,, its the max233 one.

nar no data at all,,,, thourght it was my com port but tried both ports, maybe my interface is wrong but it looks so simple you cant go wrong

hi again,,,,,, ok i have attached 2 pics of my interface what i have made,,,, spectre or anyone else could you please look and tell me if this is correct????? i have gone off the diagram in the modem tutorial posted above,, everything looks ok but cant get it to work HELP,,,,,,,,,HELP

how many wires have u got going to the 4 pin connecter (cd sound cable)
can u get a better pic
closer and clearer

plus have u got the chip the right way around

i have got 4 wires from the cd audio lead and 3 from the rs232. i know the wires are different colours but they all go to the corrasponding places and i know the connections look a bit scrappy but this is the 3rd max233 i have used and the connections were ok on the others, hope these pic are better davidh

I Had The Same Probs Until I Put The Line Feed From Cable Into My Modem Then Got Full Info Needed.

ahh,,,, i thought that,,,, but have tried with the cable feed and still nothing cherrs anyway m8

am having the same problem, i made mine on a breadboard does this make a difference,
i would buy 1 but at the mo, money situation is 2 ruff and need to save every penny.

mmmmm i wonder if there is a possibilty that the some modems could be locked from changing the mac??????? seems quite alot of people are having problems with these,,, its not as if the interface is hard to make,,,,,,, i wonder
