Hi all,

I was just wondering whether anyone would know where I could get an in car freeview tv kit from?

I have been quoted around £400-£600 from various car audio places. I know you need the box (but a small one), a pen like antenna that goes in your windshield, a magic eye so the box can be hidden and a remote... and obviously a screen of somesort (got that already).

I have seen a small box for around £50, I can get a one for all remote. So I was wondering about the antenna and magic eye really.

Any help much appreciated.

The reception will be the main issue. As you'll be driving around the signal strength'll keep changing. Digital TV is broadcast on a much less robust signal than Digital Radio so is much more prone to break up. Plus the broadcast frequencies change from region to region so you'll have to keep re-tuning the box. It would be a great idea but at the moment it'll just have to be a wonderful dream.

I've seen these on ebay, going for something like £250-300. I suppose they would have thought about the reception issue in a car otherwise it would be useless. Its bad enough using an indoor aerial in one spot!

Thanks for the replies,

I have also seen these on eBay and claim to have been tested on Japanese trains at some fantastic speed... Is this not true then?

Japan uses a much more robust set of frequencies than we do. The freeview people prefer quality over signal robustness. I have enough trouble picking up DTT via a fixed wideband aerial on the roof. Hopefully they'll have sorted out this problem by digital switchover in 2012.

i agree we are light years behind japan on digital transmissions the signal in this country is pretty weak

The sagam boxes use 12v which could make your life easier it you were going to diy

could you not construct an aerial for the car?

also,i think the signal probblem would be ok if you were only travelling around one transmitter.might go awry if you have to keep retuning.
