Looking into getting one so does anyone recommend one or know of any to stay clear of?

Cheers,

James

the Thompson freeview box for £ 79.99 in argos is a good choice. it has a smartcard slot in case you want to get topup tv in the future, of course if they improve the channel line up, that is.

I've got a Pace twin tuner PVR with built in hard drive. Its worth thinking about if your likely to want to watch more than just the one channel...i.e watch one record one or pause live tv. The only real drawback is that the 20Gig hard drive only gives you around 11 or 12 hours video recording. This can be archived to a video recorder though if you want to keep it. I think its available from Argos at a reasonable price ..also see http://www.pacefreetoview.co.uk/07c.asp One point to consider though is that as yet this box is not compatible with Top up tv but I belive that there is supposed to be a software upgrade comming soon.

avoid

from my experience aviod cheaper models e.g. echostar just does not work for me, (see recent thread). of the newer boxes on sale, panasonic tuct30, sonyvtx800u and
nokia 221t all get good reviews. I think I am going to go for the sony as my next purchase, still to check if its capable of top up card in case they put together a better package.
cheers
