For my parents. They have two ariels, one feeding the main TV and the second one a bedroom. From a visual inspection they are pointing at different transmitters. The downstairs seems to use the same one that the rest of the street is point at. The upstairs in different direction.

Since switch over a few ago the downstairs is missing a few channels that used to work before. The upstairs one was patchy before and apparently now gets nothing. I believe they have done a rescan on both devices at the weekend.

Any ideas ?

There are various possibilities depending on what equipment you have and what transmitters you are receiving, here are a few

1/ some Freeview boxes will not work properly after switchover because they are unable to tune to the new frequencies… I have noticed, for example, in my area bush Freeview boxes in particular are unable to tune to channel 21 and so cannot receive the bbc channels . some other boxes were just not compatible for example old itv digital / on digital boxes

2/It is possible that your parents have not retuned properly… try retuning again this time make sure that you replace all existing channels as some boxes have the option to add channels which is not the same thing.

3/ if you are really unlucky then you might live in an area where the transmitter frequency has changed to a different group see this post for links and colour codes

4/the switchover takes place in stages… it may be that the switchover is only partly complete and that the transmitter is still on reduced power… ask neighbours if they can receive all of the channels.

Slightly off topic, i used to find that around 9pm a few of my channels would go off, almost as if the transmitter had cut the power?

They probably have a deal with aerial producers and installers to get more business. lol

I had to do a rescan but got a new aerial about a year ago... Might be worth just popping down to screwfix and get aerial for £20 and replacing the lot. Loft distrubution box would come in handy too instead of having more than one aerial. Think most companies now charge around £80 mark as a basic to change aerial. So defo worth trying DIY method. Have even read about leaving aerial inside loft itself so the wind doesnt move it. If it works then its even easier to do.

Digital UK - Home

Go there, right hand column, put your postcode in and tick the 'i'm in the ariel installation trade' box - this will give you the correct transmitter you should be pointing at
