I've got my hands on a brand new, never used BT vision+ box for free.

I've done a bit of reading on hear and other forums and it seems to be all oldish threads and fair bit of hassle to get the vision box to become a freeview box without a bt subscription.

Is it worth me doing anything with it?
Have things progressed with the vision+ box / become easier?
Will i get anything out of it at all if i power it up connected to the aerial and the net?

I have no BT line, broadband or anything so do i sell it as is or take it apart and play?

JB.

You really cant do anything with it as the whole system is based on the box being able to contact M$ (its all programmed using m$ .net stuff and connects to a BT service run jointly by BT/M$)

There are some bits and pieces you can do which are good for experimenters to play with but it really doesn't give you a box that can be used for anything useful.

Hi jb6801,

I am in a similar situation and have a brand new bt vision box that I would like to modify.
I found some useful information here.

which leads me to this site

From the little I have read so far it would appear that there are two different mods available. One using Linux and the other Microsoft software. Both of which require a fairly simple firmware mod
Unfortunately I have not been able to find the time as yet to read through all of the English posts let alone the Germanian ones to find out exactly where things stand.
If you find out anything more or decide to start a mod then please keep in touch and perhaps we can help one another out

Darcy
