Nintendo DS Hacking tut (old school)
YOU DON'T HAVE TO FLASH ANY MORE IF YOU DONT WANT TO:- BUY A r4/DSOne
First you need to establish which firmware the DS has:
Instructions:
1. Insert a DS game in NDS slot.
2. Turn up your DS and open Pictochat, room A.
3. Now remove the NDS cartridge from the NDS slot (don't worry, you can't do much harm).
4. Both screens should turn in the same color.
If the screens don't turn YELLOW or MAGENTA it is a safe bet that it's PassME1 and WiFiME compatible.
The color 'chart':
- NDS-V1: DS will freeze, when you remove the cart.
- NDS-V2: Grayish Blue
- NDS-V3: Dark Green
- NDS-V4: Yellow
- NDS-V5: Magenta
Version 1-3 (old firmware) work with Supercard for GBA games only - you still need to flash your DS to get Nds roms/homebrew flash apps working. Flashing your DS is a DODDLE.
NB. Program Superpass2 to Superpass1 mode to flash old firmware DS.
If it's 4+ (new firmware) then you need to flash your NDS to play NDS AND GBA roms. You got to flash old or new - you can't avoid it (it's EASY). To find out how to do that look here (read Supercard for GBA Flashcart) :
dspassme.com
NB. Use Passme2 on new firmware DS (you need to program Superpass2 with the included programmer to an original game you own to flash your new firmware DS. I used Mario Kart.) It's easy to program it using usb cable (included with Superpass2) with this Pc app:
http://www.rbenda.de/shop-pro/pages/files/superpassV20.rar
This program Includes a Superpass1 setting although it's primarily for Superpass2 jobs.
For the latest hacked NDS firmware upgrade (v8a):
http://home.comcast.net/~olimar/flashme/
Buy a Superpass2 device from the link at the bottom. This has Superpass1 built in (cheaper than a Magic Key 2 - I know) and will enable you to flash ANY DS. Hook the Superpass2 up alongside your Supercard loaded with flashme.nds then run the file from the Supercard and follow the on-screen instructions to flash your DS.**
**Write the SRAM and restart
In c:\Program Files\SuperPass2\gbasav you will find the two files you need to work with your specific game cartridge.
If your game cartridge code is ASHP0 for example, you'll need to copy:
ASHP-0.gba
ASHP-0.sav
to your memory stick. The actual files you copy depend on which Game cartridge you use with the SuperPass2.
PLEASE NOTE - 'Rumble' SuperCards cannot use the SuperPass2 - 'Rumbles' do not support the GBA mode the SP2 needs. You need a 'full' SuperCard to use the SP2.
From the SuperCard menu on your console, run the .gba SRAM file that matches your game cartridge. You should see your GBA screen clear and the "SRAM Written" message appear. Power off, push the SuperPass2 into the DS slot properly, then power on again and go into GBA mode. You should see the SuperCard logo on one screen and the SuperCard menu on the other.
Please note that sometimes, the first few times you do this, nothing happens - you don't see the SuperCard logo. Power down again. Push the SP2 into the body of the DS and let it spring out, then gently withdraw it so you know it's not connected, but ready to be pushed back. Power up, then use the .gba program again to write the SRAM again. Power off, push int the SP2 and restart - sometimes it can take four or five attempts before it works. The SRAM will only stay effective for around 10 seconds, so, immediately after you see the SRAM message on the screen, power off, put the SP2 in and power on again.
If your DS is switched off for more than 10 seconds after you wrote the SRAM, it will not work - the SRAM will lose it's contents. You need to power off for at least 20 seconds before trying again, so do it quite quickly!
Now upgrade the firmware (meaning extract the file to your SD card and run it in Super Card) of the Super Card using the .bin file in this rar:
http://www.rbenda.de/shop-pro/pages/files/sd_v184.rar (otherwise Nds will not play Nds roms)
The windows app in this http://www.rbenda.de/shop-pro/pages/files/setupsdV265en.rar (SD card) rar converts very quickly Nds and GBA games for use with your Super Card. You'll figure it out
