Hi guys, new to the sat world so please brace yourself for a daft question...... I'm following guides on here to set my motor system up ( a massive source of info for someone like myself) I'm struggling to pick up a decent signal and "wrong data" is my only picture so obviously I've some issues, question is can I do a dummy run of fixing my dish to a secure pole at ground level not far from eventual location clear line of sight etc connect up my receiver and portable tv and do all my fiddling about in relative comfort (I've already had a day of going up and down the ladder!) and if this is realistic would my settings alter much other than the obvious when I move it to its final location any helpful response gratefully accepted

motorised dishes work better on the ground so if you can keep it there all the better but to answer you question then yes but I wouldn't as to many factors that may can be moved
so you could spend all day setting it up on the ground and then move it on the way up and be back to square 1

Consider loading a chanenl list onto receiver intsaed of scnning for channels. You can then zap to chanenls on differnt receiver and check you have ailigned properly. Fiine tuning required still.

a bit pointless if your going to move it. I would put the dish in its permanent location 1st.then change motor setting on your box from diseq to USALS. use google earth to to get your exact longitude and latitude. enter that as your current position then USALS has the exact locations of each sat stored on the box so it knows where each 1 is from your current position .drive the motor to each satellite on the list and if you have a signal lock then you can switch back to diseq1.2 and nudge the dish a tiny bit east or west until you get the highest signal strength then save. repeat process for each satellite your dish can receive.hope that helps

Use dishpointer.com

What receiver have you got.
Thanks for the replies guys i will give it another go insitu and follow your instructions, The system is a TM2600 diseqc motor and Tm 500 super receiver its second hand so I'm a little wary but last owner assures me it worked fine till he upgraded his system and I've no reason to doubt that ( yet ) I think it's just down to my ability or lack of it once again many thanks

what kind of meter are you using if your using a crappy one i would be more likely to bring your tm500 outside and connect to a tv outside then you can see if you get a lock saves you running up and down the ladders

Cheers
I've been doing just that great day for it! Used dish pointer and figures from instruction manual have checked and treble checked that the mounting pole is plumb vertical the receiver goes to different channels and shows what it should be on the info screen but as yet no picture other than pink and green and wrong data transmission displayed on every one, wondering if I've unknowingly cocked something up in my receiver settings now, my figures are lat 54 long 1.5 elevation angle 36 yet not a bean, when i bought it I had to buy a new lmb titanium low band 10.7-11.7ghz high band 11.7-12.75ghz is there a wrong way to fit them?

make sure you have a good fixture fitting, the t bar and scaff pole is alot better than the L shape fittings, move less in heavy winds

Cheers Liam I've used a t and k and scaffold pole that bit went fine, having a bit of a mare now I'm not one to give in easily but for some reason/ reasons its not playing ball and I'm bogging myself down with aspects I don't understand can any one recommend an installer in the north east?

Back to basics m8, is your motor elevation/latitude set correctly?

Is the dish correctly aligned on the motor spigot?
