On a different thread I revealed I was having problems with clearing one of the Sinema TV channels on 5 east. This was due to an error by myself in entering incorrect b*ss keys.

Then, up until yesterday, the two channels involved were clearing nicely. This morning, however, both channels have become unwatchable with distorted pictures and severe audio break-up.

Elsewhere, Zorch and others have been discussing how the patch makers may be on the right road to enabling certain receivers to be able to decode ACM/VCM transmissions. Is it possible that these channels have moved away from the widely used CCM format to one of these others and might it be the start of something that will become more common in the future?

I could, of course, be completely barking up the wrong tree.

They are both currently open with the usual method.9.46 am.

12686 H 5600.

It did take a minute for the signal to come in.

Well the channels are now clearing perfectly for me too.

I wonder if they were experimenting earlier on with Multi Input Stream technology.

You could well be correct.

Usually the signal picture is instant . No doubt it will reveal itself, if there is change afoot.

these channels are not for dth reception and very expensive rack recievers are used to recieve the broadcasts..... mutv used to have these issues and i think the broadcaster may be messing with the uplink parameters somwhat. i wouldnt hold your breath on the ACM/VCM on the TM boxs, regards mdt

Hi killdeer & jamsb,

I think you'll find that the problem with these channels is Signal Quality related... there are two main factors to take into consideration...

1/ The transponder mode is DVB-S2/8PSK/MPEG-4
2/ The latest TM patches favour an all-or-nothing approach to acquiring signals

To better understand this... I recommend loading an earlier patch like 117p which (in my opinion) is a much better (quality) patch than the newer ones... you'll notice (when using 117p) that the Signal Quality will steadily rise/increase on the DVB-S2/8PSK transponders/channels until it reaches a peak... whereas the newer patches like 133p want to lock the signal instantly at it's peak... but it seems they are unable to do this...

You might have also noticed (when using the newer patches) that the picture on some channels will pixellate occasionally... this usually happens when the Signal Quality fluctuates/goes down slightly... however if you use one of the older patches like 117p this doesn't happen... the picture on the channel will simply freeze on the screen... then when sufficient Signal Quality is re-acquired... the picture will resume as normal... a much better (more professional approach) in my opinion... I hate seeing pixellated, jumbled up messes on the screen...

The reason TM patches changed to the all-or-nothing approach of acquiring signals was because people complained that channel change times were not as fast as they would like... personally I would prefer good stable pictures...

I hope this helps...

Best Wishes,
Zorch

Hello Zorch,

I also noticed this on the M2 series also.

It was not present on 101 0r 102p.

From thereon it does happen frequently on new patches.

I agree with you , better channel clears a little slower with better quality lock, picture.

All the best. jamsb.
