afternoon all

could anyone enlighten me about this particular dish below, the lnb doenst look like anything ive seen before.

the dish is up on my house in thailand and when i go in a few days, im taking a dm500 with me and i was going to hook it up etc. im assuming its just a static dish i need to get up on the roof and take a closer look

It looks like an old motorised dish mate, the angled pole to the right of the main support looks like an old-style actuator. The black 'dome' is just a cover for the LNB, there could be anything in there (including wildlife!). I dismantled something similar for a customer a few years ago. He offered me it to take away- I declined.... not sure if I regret it or not.
I doubt if your DM500 will be able to move it directly, is there any other legacy equipment left behind? I.e positioner etc?

odds are its C-BAND as it looks similar to a chapparal mesh dishes that are big in the us for fta c-band although of course it could be ku band also. they look much better than out offset dishes although its closer to the equator so thats why its looking straight upwards. that would look great on the back of your house lol regards mdt

thanks, there is nothing left behind, plz note though that isnt the actual picture of mine, its the only one i could find online that looked the same :) i dont think the one on our house has a motor.

im also assuming its pointed at thaicom5/6 78.5e to watch just normal thai freeview.

how will i be able to tell about c-band, ku band etc, i dont know much in this area of satelite's, will a dm500 be able to tune into these different bands?

the dm500 can tune into c-band its all on what lnb it has on the dish.

plug the dm500 in and see which channels you pull in as 78.5e has both C and Ku band footprints into thailand

Thaicom 5/6A at 78.5°E - LyngSat
