Hi sorry about the title, but i'm just about to buy a HD Sat box with a free A+++++ gift. If you get my meaning.

Can anyone reccomend which one to buy, all the info around is a bit confusing.

How long do these gifts normally last, or how long have they been going.

Or should I hold out a little longer, is something else is about to be released.

Thanks

basically no-one knows. The "gift" should be 12 MONTHS and probably will be there or there abouts but there is no contact so you take your chances.

My gut feeling with the spiderbox is it is good value and will probably prove that but in fact it is guesswork.

yup wouldnt bother asking if theres any garrantee or ask any questions like that on als*t forums.

Its like been suggested for the content you get its well worth the cost even if it didnt last 12 months, and its no point asking what happens after 12 months since it doesnt look like your gonna get anything extra. The options afterwards or even before the Gift A++ goes down is c/s.

You can do further checking on spiderbox forums(google it)

While theres been many discuss the freezing issues on channels they have usualy been resolved with adjustments to the settings.

Im hoping all goes well this weekend with my new moterised kit, and ill pick up a spiderbox later on but may actually look into other boxes/options since a decent box with good support + c/s maybe the best way forward :)

Its been hinted Spiderbox is newbie friendly also;)

Mate has a box and it works well. Gift should be for 12 months but it's a gift so no guarentees.
Remember if using for cs it shares in not out. Having said that you can use another box as server. For the spec it looks good deal.

I think that as long as you are aware that there is no guarantee whatsoever for channels or how long they go for, then its a newbie box with decent value. It gets you going, it will satisfy, it gets good choice for the cost.

You can buy different hardware with c/share for similar money, but its not as simple as this all-in-one solution. Yes, the bad reputation these guys have is very off-putting, but its 'cheap n cheeful' so thats its appeal. Understand that its not forever, understand you cant get help for it from the main suppliers forum, and I think its still value and will suit many people.

Unless the manufacturers of these boxes have suddenly got a heart, i steer clear and spend ur cash on a linux box that U can learn and CONTROL. From previous exp. These stbs are temporary solutions. Over the years, there have been many, protek, maxx, lyng, nanoxx, innovative just to name a few, and while they still"work" ,none bar one gives the same amount of chans as they did at the beginning...and support for these stbs is hit and miss

Id be interested too hear what box you own or would go for next ?

rp i think Bod has already told you what his preference would be a linux box. you will need a share though on a linux and theres no guarantees there either. if you are fortunate enough to get a good share then you wont be bothered after your "free" gift runs out.

for whats its worth mate i have a linux and i also bought a protek mostly for jsc sports. its been brilliant value for money in the 6 months i have had it - the german sky package is very good.

Bod makes a good point on receivers here, newer people in satellite would be wise to take note.Could not have put this better myself(i steer clear and spend ur cash on a linux box that U can learn and CONTROL)Myself i like the Azbox, some might say get a Dream, but with these boxes you do have control whatever you might get.

if you want a HD box get dm800 clone one cost me £165 delivered form china and its quality!

if your not fussed about Hd get a SD linux box which supports CCCAM such as eagle linux or a cheap dm500 clone (botyh are the same i had Eagle and it never let me down)

Without breaking rules is it possible to explain what you mean by learn and control ?

I was just gonna go spiderbox due to newbie appeal and A++ package, but now theres talks of a TM800 HD for under 200 quid that sounds nice also :)

Isnt there a hughe learning curve on linux boxes though ?

unless you can get a share a dreambox is just a fancy fta box with unlimited potential, there are no garuntees as we all know but id back the protek team anyday!
