Hi ash I know you proably have but is dhcp ticked on your box network setup and is dhcp enabled on your router. I no it sounds silly but I have done that by mistake myself in the past. Is this the same vonets unit that blew your laptop usb ports.

hi

dhcp is enabled on both dreambx and router!!

still puzzled, might bin it.

yes it is the one that frazzled my usb port.

funnily the usb port is semi working now.

anyway back to vonets...what shall i do?

can i hook my dreambox upto my laptop to activate the network in the house for the box that way? or do i need this vonets thing which is doing a shite job!!

cheers

What you need to is go to network connections drag and highlight both wireless and wired connection, when highlighted right click on them and select bridge connections. It will go thru the process, when finished it will show a new connection called bridged connection. Give your box a static ip address within your network range. Then plug in your network cable to your box and your laptop. If you have any problems ge back to us

when i highlight them both it says i cannot bridge because they both need to be NOT USED by internet connection sharing if this means anything

you must have internet sharing enabled on one of your conections, right click on each connection and go to properties and see if internet sharing is ticked, if it is untick it. Also check that both are set to optain ipaddress automatically in tcp/ip setings.

thanks set up bridge, how do i do a static ip and where do i input this into the box?

cheers!

What box are you doing this on, usually on remote go to menu then setup then system the network, switch off dhcp the enter IP and save.

what number do you suggest i use for ip address?

You need to find what ip range your router is assigning addresses, if you can open command prompt and type in ipconfig see what ip addres has been assigned to your pc, says its 192.168.1.5 then you use for the box 192.168.1.50

my comp is 192.168.0.2 so would i use 192.168.0.20?

also i need netmask would that be 225.225.225.0?

and also gateway, that would be 192.168.0.1 right?

cheers

yes thats perfect if it fails plug in the network lead to the box and laptop turn dhcp back on and let it find all that info itself but after that then go back in and turn off dhcp and only change the ip address.

with all those settings and dhcp off it still says ip address unconfirmed

with dhcp on and the ip address adjusted manually it still says unconfirmed.

what the hell am i doing wrong?

im so pissed off! sorry! thank you for your help.

Ok can you go into your network connections on your pc, there should be 3 off them now. local area connection, wireless connevtion and bridged connection. See which one show connected. Dont change anything yet just let me know.

wireless connected

the bridge is green and when i go to properties it is connected, but say no network access

it is sending and recieving bytes tho if this helps

Ok right click and disconect the wireless connection then reconnect this time it should say connected but show not connected on the little icon. Then remove the network cable from the box and reconnect it and wait about 15 seconds it should connect your box then. I no its a little frustrating but you will get there.
